Visual Scraps & Artistic Endeavors • October 2024
Though my art making was limited this month, I still found pockets of “me-time” where I could art-practice in between research deadlines and travel.
Here are a few of my behind-the-art-scenes highlights 👇🏽 (in addition to my paper art stint a couple of weeks ago) this October 🙏🏽
(1) DRAFTING A COMIC
I haven’t officially taken a stab at making a comic of any kind, be it a strip or single pane. Maybe in the past I tried but whatever I did try back then never quite materialized beyond initial sketches.
Yet since attending SPX2024, my comics bug has come back with FULL FORCE 🙂 and so I’m trying my hand once again.
That’s it for now about my comics draft above; I’ll share more as it develops further 🙏🏽
(2) SNIPPED & SCRAPPED NEWSPAPER LETTERS
A local couple who’s learned I’m always searching for used magazines, unwanted catalogs, and discarded newspapers to cut up for my own artistic purposes has lovingly begun to support my addiction efforts 🙏🏽
Many warm thanks to the Browns for sending me a weekly care package of their discarded junk mail and such EACH and every week!!
It’s like Christmas four times a month, I swear xo I cannot thank them enough for this generous support towards my art making and thoughtful and ongoing gesture.
(3) REVIEWING BOOK PAGE & SPREAD DESIGNS FOR LAYOUT INSPO
A beautiful friend who’s been encouraging my EXUDE writing efforts turned me on to the illustrated works of New York Times bestselling author Kim Krans 🤍 I find her tarot-themed and mystic-inspired illustrations and spread layouts to be mouthwatering and aesthetically delicious for my visual art heart (the page spread above is from Krans’ book, The Wild Unknown Archetypes Deck + Guidebook).
OK that’s all for now but as we teeter into November (my favorite month of the whole year!!), I can’t wait to see how autumn’s full display of golds and rusts will inspire my art projects and practice.
