Visual Endeavors • Highlights for August 2024
My spotlights this month focus on embracing inspiration 🙏🏽
(1) SKETCHBOOK DOODLE ART
Allowing your heart to doodle away on empty pages is just sheer bliss 🤍
You never how what you sketch or draw will turn out when it’s all doodled, said, and done … so you just have to go for it and see what doodle art gets birthed from the sparkles of your brilliant imagination.
(2) PRETENDING IS PLAYTIME
Well, can it really be called “pretending” when you’re more like “envisioning?”
Whatever we’re calling it, giving design ideas a fun playtime is so important to stay creatively nourished and be welcoming of new possibilities.
In any case, my imagined ILLUSTRA publication cover was so much fun to put together that I keep finding myself contemplating if I should consider making such a magazine (or ebook) an true reality 🙏🏽 #maybeoneday
(3) OLD PAPERS GALORE
Juxtaposing a stash of old papers and photos with unexpected accents is always a visual adventure.
Like here, above, where you can see I’ve paired old pages with doilies and even a denim scrap from my own jeans, which I attached to a tag using a handy safety pin. Off to the far left, notice the repeating, powder blue floral motif … that’s actually a hand-stamped motif from an illustration in one of my sketchbooks.
So what visual stuff have YOU been up to this month?
