The Start Before The Start
start (noun) /stärt/ … the point in time or space at which something has its origin; the beginning.
“Choose yourself,” they say.
“Love yourself.”
“Self love.”
… and “self forgive.”
Self this and self that.
All day long and wherever you go.
But these important mantras assume people can easily enact these kinds of introspective chores without substantial tides of friction.
Dispirited hearts and broken souls, in particular, have to work a bit more to even reach the “self practice” start line.
That’s because these individuals usually have to work through various and challenging inner hurdles well before they embark on any practices related to self compassion, self love, and the like.
This is not to say one can’t persevere through the muck.
Yet it’s important to note that not everyone has an equal “ground zero” starting point.
For some, “the start” begins in the deficit red, well beneath the zero frontier.
This pointed reality, which applies to swaths of grappling folks from all walks of life, varies per person and should be acknowledged and compassionately understood.
