Introduction to Mixtura!
The English translation of the Spanish word mixtura is “mixture.”
Oxford Languages further defines mixtura as:
“a combination of different qualities, things, or emotions in which the component elements are individually distinct.”
This word — mixtura — is so on point.
It accurately describes what I believe artists ultimately do, which is this:
We combine our passion for image-making with various skills, techniques, and life experiences to produce a distinct and aesthetic output.
The mixtura mantra inspires my own artwork.
As a mixed media artist, I’m all about bringing together interesting textures, pigments, and techniques to create something new, different, or entirely unexpected,
That’s the essence of mixing media: the constant blending of mediums and elements to produce something diverse and richly visual.
With those ideas now out of the way 🙂 I’d like to introduce myself so you can get to know me a little better.
My name is Mayra Yadir and I’m a mixed media artist and visuality coach.
I’m also an illustrator, surface designer, and visual storyteller.
My academic training includes an MFA which had an advertising and editorial illustration concentration (especially for children’s books).
But before all this art stuff, I spent my whole career as a digital designer.

Writing here offers me an outlet to share my passions with likeminded folks who appreciate mixed media, enjoy art making, and seek to expand their own creativity and visuality.
